Mr Wong Yew Mun, Founder of Unusual Ideas

Mr Wong Yew Mun is the founder of Unusual Ideas, an education program that trains children in mathematics and science. It also aids teachers in better educating their students. Unusual Ideas adopts a unique teaching technique which Yew Mun developed and improved on over the years. He is also the co-author of “The Einstein Factor”.

Yew Mun started teaching since 2000. With his expertise, he has helped several primary and secondary school students, labeled as “failures”, to attain good academic results. He has a strong belief that education should be a fun and enjoyable journey, and that rote learning is out. To support this belief, he uses strategies such as magic performance, playing of games and even cracking mathematical jokes as part of his teaching curriculum.

With a passion for giving back to society and inspiring his students to do the same by emphasizing on the emotional aspects of his students, he once took them to visit and donate towels to Pertapis Children Home.

Yew Mun has been appointed as the enrichment instructor for various community centres all over Singapore. Organisations that have invited Yew Mun to speak include Creative Technology, ITE, Temasek Polytechnic, NUS, DSTA, Borders Bookstore, Singapore Prison Service, People’s Association and schools, too. He was also invited by National Library Board to talk on “How to teach Math in a fun and interesting way.”
